Captured in Finland, Tale of a Forest is an extensive, stunning look at the prosperous animal and plant life that makes its habitat in the extravagant forests of Northern Finland, and the obstacles both must conquer as the seasons alter.
The main characters of the film are the assortment of inhabitants of the forest: the bears and the elk, the snakes and the owls, the ants, the frogs and the flying squirrels, the ancient soul birds such as the Siberian Jay, the Lapland Owl and many, many others.
“The primal, old-growth forests have almost vanished during the past 50 years. Still over 30% of these remaining original forest in Europe can be found in Finland. The thousand-year life cycle of the old forests is divided into four seasons. Our cinematographers have followed this unique and beautiful nature for decades and they used over five years to shoot this film. During the shoot they lived as part of the forest’s annual cycle, as part of the nature.
Making a movie entirely on the terms of the nature is very difficult, but rewarding. Authenticity is one of the reasons for the record breaking success of Tale of the Forest. Its simplicity and beauty has received rave critiques and drawn masses to cinemas. The spectators have enjoyed the gentle rhytm on the unique nature and the story told via old myths and beliefs of the Northern Forests”. Producer： Marko Röhr.
